How to judge your current performance and position to stand scrutiny with regard to dealing with anti social behaviour and neighbourhood nuisance other than by simple standards measuring.
In 2009 we have had first hand dealings with a large number of practitioners, supervisors, policy makers and citizens throughout the UK. From this experience we would ask any CEO or organisation the following critical questions if they are dealing with Neighbourhood Nuisance and Anti-Social Behaviour.
Q1: If you came under media scrutiny or any form of inquiry would you be able to evidence, audit and prove you have fulfilled all of your duties of care and statutory responsibilities?
Q2: How confident are you that your organisation is dealing correctly, in an end to end fashion with Anti Social Behaviour to avoid citizen dissatisfaction and thus reducing negative public perception, particularly after an intervention?
Q3: Are you sure that all of your policies and procedures are up to date and lawful?
Q4: Can you be sure that with your existing resources you are obtaining value for money with regard to dealing with anti social behaviour?
Q5: As a CEO, Director, Senior Manager or Board Member do you feel adequately personally protected with regard to your personal liabilities and issues such as data loss and corporate manslaughter?
Q6: Do you have qualified and competent front line practitioners and managers of ASB resources embedded in your organisation?
Q7: Are you really satisfied with your influence with regard to multi-agency working and is it enough to protect your organisation and neighbourhoods?
Q8: Put simply are you just waiting for, or at risk of being the next big media story due to the performance of your organisation or partners with regard to dealing with a chaotic family or a vulnerable victim of ASB?
Q9: Judging from what you have observed in the national media recently with regard to the perceived performance of organisations in handling ASB matters pre or post interventions. Do you feel confident and able to handle aggressive national media enquiries always responding appropriately particularly in the present media and political climate?
Q10:Importantly are you able to manage the CEO and organisations first response and continual update strategy demanded by national media, bearing in mind the CEO and your organisation will be judged for ever more on statements made at this time.
What we and you know is that if you cannot confidently answer positively all of the above then the cost in economic and reputation terms is considerable and could be for some individuals unfairly catastrophically career limiting.
